Fed: Howard happy with parents reaction to anti drug ads
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says parents in Australia have reacted well to the federal
government's $27 million anti-drug campaign.
Mr HOWARD has told ABC radio response has been encouraging.
The campaign's controversial television advertisements are aimed at educating parents
about drugs.
An educational booklet is also being sent to households.
Mr HOWARD says he had expected some criticism over the information campaign.
He describes it as an unvarnished, straightforward appeal to parents to get more involved
in talking to their children about the dangers of drug-taking and the dangers of starting
down the path of drug-taking.
He says research shows 70 per cent of young people are more likely to listen to their
parents on the issue of drugs.
